Tyaga Brahmanjali is a tribute to Sri Tyagaraja or Tyaga Brahman, one of the greatest saint composers of Carnatic music. Shashikala Ravi has choreographed dance to some of his compositions and has presented her work through this DVD. The special features of this DVD are – 1. Dance performance to some of the kritis of Tyagaraja by Shashikala Ravi 2. Word to word meaning of the lyrics of the kritis and 3. Life story of Sri Tyagaraja.

Shashikala Ravi is the founder director of Amritanjali School of Bharatanatyam in Pune. She is the senior disciple of Natya Kalanidhi late Smt Swarna Saraswathy of Bharatanatya Academy, Delhi. Shashikala is also a student of Padmabhushan Smt Kalanidhi Narayan under whom she has studied aspects of Abhinaya.

Shashikala Ravi holds a post graduate degree in Bharatanatyam. She is at present doing her PhD in Bharatanatyam. She is also trained in Carnatic vocal by her mother. A recipient of Natya Ratna and Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad awards, Shashikala is an empanelled artiste with the ICCR – Indian Council of Cultural Relations, New Delhi and IRCEN – India International Rural Cultural Centre, New Delhi. She is a graded artiste with the Doordarshan. She has also recently released a DVD titled The Dance of Shiva.

Shashikala has performed widely in India and abroad in countries like Germany, Greece, Sri Lanka, UK and Malaysia. She also holds postgraduate degrees in Zoology and Education.
