Thanthramukhi, the latest play from UAA- United Amateur Artistes is a hilarious comedy that offers a wholesome entertainment. It revolves around the travails of a young man, who tries to win the hand of his lady-love against all odds, with the help of a shrewd middle-aged bachelor. Unemployed and timid Hari falls in love with Meena, the daughter of a business magnate. He meets ‘ Solution’ Sundaram and seeks his help in marrying his beloved. Enter an ‘ all ‘ knowing’ Sridhar, who throws a bombshell saying Hari cannot get married to anyone until he atones for the sin he had committed in the previous birth. How Sundaram maneuvers the situations to help Hari wriggle out of the crisis forms the crux of the story. The appearance of an elephant on the stage evokes memories of the spectacular tricks seen in the plays of veteran stage artiste, the late R.S Manohar, to whom UAA dedicates this play. Written by ‘Chithralaya’ Sriram, Thanthramukhi has been dramatized & directed by Y Gee Mahendra.

Mahendra is no stranger to the Tamil film or theatre audiences. Son of Y.G.Parthasarathy, the patriarch of the Tamil stage who founded the UAA in 1952, he made his debut on stage at the age of 10. He has several plays and over 100 films and a score of television serials to his credit.
